Teacher Qualifications


Here are the requisites to become a Maya Teacher:

 

  • Teacher QualificationsA minimum: Bachelor’s Degree
  • A recognized teaching certificate
  • An understanding of and commitment to the Mission, Vision, Philosophy, and goals of Colegio Maya
  • Evidence of professional commitment to continuous growth
  • Some experience working with an international and different cultures
  • A team player/collaborator who will share the responsibility with colleagues in accomplishing the goals and priorities of Colegio Maya
  • Willing to support and enhance the Colegio Maya Graduate Profile, both in the classroom and in the greater community
  • Competent in the use of technology
  • Uses a variety of teaching methods, techniques and strategies creating an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement.
  • Monitors students’ understanding of the curriculum and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments to meet developmental and academic needs of diverse learners.
  • Plans effective and varied assessment of student learning and keeps accurate records of student progress.
  • Encourages critical thinking and problem solving through prompts, questioning and application.
  • Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
  • Communicates learning goals, high standards, and expectations of quality to students.
  • Is knowledgeable of and uses identified core practices
  • Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and differentiates for students with special needs.
  • Is constructive and cooperative in interactions with parents and receptive to their contributions.
  • Is constructive and cooperative in interactions with teachers and administrators.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for subjects taught.
  • Actively works to plan class time so as to maximize learning and enjoyment.
  • Accommodates teaching practices for ESOL learners by promoting the maintenance of the student’s first language including use of multiple languages when students are engaged in classroom discussions with their peers and learning new academic concepts.
