Technology

Colegio Maya is a Google Workspace school. Students use Schoology and Google Applications on a daily basis as part of their learning. We are a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school and have a Tech Department that is prepared and capable of assisting our community with troubleshooting or any kind of assistance we might need. We have Wi-Fi around campus and outlets, so students can work anywhere and at any time. There are also several computer labs on campus with iMacs and PC’s, and mobile labs with iPads and Chromebooks that are available to students.

Technology at Colegio Maya focuses on innovation and creativity. Technology classes use project-based learning to empower students and provide them with opportunities to develop skills that will help them succeed in the future, such as problem-solving, research, analytical, and critical thinking skills. We provide a range of software and hardware resources to support teaching, learning, and extracurricular activities.

Digital Citizenship

At Colegio Maya, we place an emphasis on digital citizenship and accountability. Following ISTE Standards, our students “understand the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world”. Colegio Maya has recently adopted the Google program Be Internet Awesome. We use Common Sense Media Resources to help students become responsible digital citizens.

Technology in the Classroom

In elementary, technology is part of their core classes and it is imparted by a specialist. The students begin by researching the topic of the project and gather information by answering research questions. They present a range of examples of successful products and based on their analysis of these and interest, they develop ideas to create their own successful product. The process is recorded and presented in an individual report that also helps students work on their commutation and writing skills, as well as, referencing and sourcing skills.

In secondary, the students have different choices on technology classes as electives which include: Video Game Design, Computer Sciences, Advertising and Marketing, Design Technology, Tech Applications, and Multimedia Design. Each class provides students different learning opportunities and a wider range of experiences.
