Student Life at Colegio Maya spans several areas that meet the needs of the development of the “whole child”:
Academics: First and foremost, Colegio Maya is a leading school among AASCA schools in academic achievement by a number of measurements. It offers rigor at all levels and requires that students take their school work seriously.
Social Conscience and Community Service: Especially true at the high school level, one of the main tenets of Colegio Maya is the spirit of giving back to the community and, especially, helping those who are less fortunate. However, it is also the case that this inculcation of values begins at the earliest grades.
Performing Arts Program: Colegio Maya has a very robust arts program, featuring vocal and instrumental music, a wide range of genre of fine arts, and an excellent drama department. Last year’s productions included Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet.
Athletic Program: Colegio Maya allows for many students to participate in soccer, volleyball, and basketball.
Adventure and Outdoors Program: Colegio Maya students have ample opportunity to enjoy the bounty of what Guatemala has to offer. Whether it is in the way of field trips to sea turtle rookeries, to outdoor science classrooms, to zip lining, or hiking, Maya students get a taste of it all.
Special Events: Few schools anywhere take as much pride and joy in putting on special events for their students. With the help of PTSA, STUCO, the generous participation of faculty, there are noteworthy events the students look forward to all year long. Some of them are Fall Festival, the Middle School Lock-In, the Fun Run, The Friendship Fair, and the Clash of Colors. You have to experience it to believe it!
