Technology at Maya focuses on innovation and creativity. Technology classes use project-based learning to empower students and provide them with opportunities to develop skills that will help them succeed in the future, such as problem solving, research, analytical and critical thinking skills. We provide a range of software and hardware resources to support teaching and learning and extracurricular activities.

Our goal is that by the time students reach high-school, they should move from being product consumers to product creators.

Digital Citizenship

At Colegio Maya we place an emphasis on digital citizenship and accountability. Our students “understand the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world” (ISTE Standard). Colegio Maya has recently adopted the Google program “Be and Internet Awesome” and we use Common Sense Media resources to help them become responsible digital citizens.

Elementary Technology

In Elementary, Technology is part of their core classes and it is imparted by a specialist. The students begin by researching the topic of the project and gather information by answering research questions. They present a range of examples of successful products and based on their analysis if these and interest, they develop ideas to create their own successful product. The process is recorded and presented in an individual report that also helps students work on their commutation and writing skills, as well as, referencing and sourcing skills.

Secondary Technology

In Secondary, the students have different choices on Technology classes as electives, which are Video Game Design, Computer Sciences, Advertising and Marketing, Design Technology, Tech Applications, and Multimedia Design. Each class provides students a different learning opportunities and a wider range of experiences.

Technology Services

We are a G Suite school and students use Google Classroom and Google Applications on a daily basis as part of their learning. We also are a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school, our Tech Department is prepared and capable of assisting our community with troubleshooting and any kind of assistance they might need. We also have Wifi around campus and outlets so students can work anywhere and at any time. There are also several computer labs on campus with iMacs and PC’s, and mobile labs with laptops, iPads, and Chromebooks that are available to students.

A makerspace is a place where students can experiment and innovate in a safe environment. Through this process, students are able to learn and explore about different concepts and techniques. We are equipped with all sorts of tools such as drills, routers, sanders, files, screw drivers, 3D printers, 3D scanner, robots, and more. We also have iMacs with a wide range of software that students can use to plan and create their designs and prototypes. We place an emphasis on incorporating STEAM and Service projects into the learning process and providing support to students to turn their ideas into reality.
