What is the NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY?

The National Junior Honor Society is an organization that creates enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulates a desire to render service, promotes leadership, develops character, and encourages good citizenship in the students of secondary school.

 

How to become a Member?

Each September, students from 8th and 9th Grade who fulill the NJHS requisites are inducted in a private ceremony. National Junior Honor Society members are selected on the basis fo their academic accomplishments (a minimun GPA of 3.3 is required) as well as their accomplishments in the areas of leadership and service, and their character.

 

History of NJHS in Colegio Maya

Colegio Maya became part of both the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society in 1990. This project was proposed by teachers who were part of it in American Schools all around the world, and by students who were also part of it.

 

NJHS Projects

The NJHS encourages members to contribute their communities. Originally, NJHS Community Service projects have bee with schools around the area. The organizations has also helped with Safe Passage and Libraries for illiteracy.

 

What do the NJHS OFFICERS do and CAN I RUN?

They "lead the leader". They hold meetings every other Friday of each month where important community service ideas are decided as well as various fundraisers and other service. Of course you can run!
