second semester: A play day with Safe Passage students that will
come to Maya on March the 3rd.
- We are planning and organizing our Friendship
fair activity (March 24)
[I
Semester: 2006-2007]
- Our first fundraiser was named again "The
Winter Bake Sale". It was held on November 29. We sold hot
chocolate, sushi, brownies, marshmallows, candy, and dumplings.
- We decided to support Safe Passage, the school
wide community service initiative, by doing a backpack drive. The
purpose was to collect money to help SP buy backpacks for the new
school year for the more than 500 students that they support. Each
student in Colegio Maya was given an envelope with a letter, where
we asked for a donation of a suggested amount of 100 Q to buy backpacks.
The envelope also contained a small paper backpack that each student
painted and used to decorate a Christmas tree. Each day from December
4 to 13 we had the NJHS members helping out to put the backpacks
on the tree.
- We were able to collect over Q20,000 for backpacks!
- NJHS members helped out packing the Christmas
baskets for the workers at Colegio Maya in December 6, 2006.

marshmallows, cookies, brownies, heating bags and small doughnuts.
The result was Q.1190
- The hot chocolate left from "Winter Sale",
was sold to the teachers.
- NJHS bought 2 backpacks to contribute to the school
end of year project.
- Most of ninth graders in NJHS helped the NHS group
grapping the Christmas Baskets for maintenance workers on December
6th, 2005.
- We had counted the can-pull tab that where collected
last year, and Mrs. Gnata with 3 members deliver them to Hospital
Roosevelt. Based on this visit, NJHS decided to keep on gathering
donations of diapers, toilet paper, atoll, plastic cups, cookies and
toothpaste to help the work the voluntary ladies do at the Hospital.
- We decided that our main community service will
be with Safe Passage students.
