that NJHS collected to help the Damas Voluntarias that
have an ongoing helping program in this hospital.
- On March 3, we had our community service day, which
we did with the seniors. For this activity day, 45 students of Safe
Passage came to spend the morning at Maya. They had the chance to
play in the fields, learn about some computer programs and receive
a health class specifically about Hygiene. During the day snack where
provided and lunch was shared with them at the end of the morning.
Reflections upon the day showed that some of our strong points where
organization and logistics as it was having so many Maya students
to participate in the activity, especially with so many SP kids coming.
Communication between the groups involved was a challenge. In general
it was a great day for everyone involved!
- On March 24, we have our traditional Friendship
Fair. We decided to participate by doing "pinta caritas"
and bringing a "saltarin inflable. Half the profits go
to help our great PTA.

the school wide community service initiative, by doing a backpack
drive. The purpose was to collect money to help SP buy backpacks
for the new school year for the more than 500 students that they
support. Each student in Colegio Maya was given an envelope with
a letter, where we asked for a donation of a suggested amount of
100 Q to buy backpacks. The envelope also contained a small paper
backpack that each student painted and used to decorate a Christmas
tree. Each day from December 4 to 13 we had the NJHS members helping
out to put the backpacks on the tree.
