Profile of a Colegio Maya Parent

 

Colegio Maya Parents:

 

  • Understand and support the school’s Vision, Mission, Beliefs and “Non-Negotiables”.

 

  • Are positive role models of life long learners.

 

  • Seek to understand Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences and how it applies to their child.

 

  • Recognize the dignity of each individual and work with the school and their children to embrace cultural diversity.

 

  • Send their child to school ready to learn, on time and with attention to their physical/mental health including support of nutritious meals.

 

  • Take an active interest in what is happening in the child’s classroom.

 

  • Are aware of their child’s academic strengths and celebrate them.

 

  • Are aware of their child’s challenges and problem areas and help seek solutions to both.

 

  • Read any written communication sent home including emails and check the web site frequently.

 

  • Are supportive of the guidelines and rules as written in our handbooks.

 

  • Provide a quiet space in the home for study time and reading.

 

  • Encourage and celebrate the habit of reading.

 

  • Work to realize the balance between helping extend learning via homework and letting the child do the work independently.

 

  • Are involved in the school and take time to share that interest by communicating with teachers, administration, the PTA, and others via parent teacher conferences, etc.

 

  • Develop and maintain their children’s first language.
