Welcome
Message
Colegio Maya, the American International
School of Guatemala, has over 330 students, representing
more than 30 countries. It is a US-type international school,
fully accredited by AdvancED. It is also an active member of
the Association of American Schools in Central America (AASCA),
a group of nineteen schools in the region that facilitates
professional development and curriculum support, and runs
high school sporting competitions and other events including
Knowledge Bowl, Leadership Conferences and music and drama
events.
Colegio Maya believes in every student's multiple intelligences
and unlimited talents. In our school community we always
seek excellence, but not in a narrow sense. We truly value
diversity and, through our learning program and values,
we encourage each student to find his or her own voice and
to develop their leadership capacities. Our beliefs are
based in action words: fostering, celebrating, creating,
encouraging, preparing, stimulating and affirming.
Our "non-negotiables" include
small classes with an average size between 12 and 18 students,
academic excellence, ongoing staff development, celebration
of diversity and a commitment to fostering social responsibility.
In 2005 we completed a major construction
project, and we now have a superb Performing and Fine Arts
Center (PAFA). It has a 340 seat professional standard theater,
and specially designed classrooms for art, music and drama.
Along with our excellent classroom, library and gym facilities,
our PAFA Center demonstrates our commitment to a healthy
mind, body and spirit.
We invite you to enjoy this website, introduce
yourselves to us and let us know what else you would like
to know about our school. Also, if you are ever in the neighborhood,
please stop by for a visit. We would love to share our campus,
our spirit and our fine program and students with you.
