Community
Service Trip Process
|
| Step 1: |
According to the Community Service Calendar set by
the HS STUCO, high school class and project officers need to coordinate
dates and fill out the Community
Service Trip Request in conjunction with the class/project
advisor and submit it to the Curriculum Facilitator at least one
week in advance. Other grade level projects should coordinate
dates with the Curriculum Facilitator.
|
| Step 2: |
The class/project officers in conjunction with the
advisor need to complete the permission slips and distribute them
and collect them from the participants at least 2 days prior to the
trip. The completed permission slips should be given to Karla (secondary)
or Patty (elementary) so that they can generate a list of participants
for the trip, which they will share with the advisors, principals
and curriculum facilitator. A minimum of 10 students are required
in order for a trip to run.
*This year students will have the opportunity to participate in
other grade level Community Service projects. This means that students
of the grade level sponsored project are given priority to participate,
but that also other students may also participate on a first-come,
first-serve basis in signing up with the class/project officer.
Again, the total that may participate due to bus sizes, unless special
arrangements are made, are 23 (which need to include 2 chaperones
- 1 class/project sponsor and an additional adult).
|
| Step 3: |
The curriculum facilitator will confirm the trip with
the grade level principal and the necessary transportation with Mrs.
Tsuji. Whenever possible, groups should be aware that our transportation
consists of a micro van which can hold 13 people plus a driver and
the coaster bus which holds 23 people plus a driver total. Whenever
possible, we will try to use the van when numbers warrant it. Therefore,
advisors need to confirm the number of people that will be attending
a trip.
|
| Step 4: |
In anticipation of the trip, students should have planned
the activities that will be held and have ready the necessary materials.
On the day of the trip, class/project advisors should carry with them
the list of participants (with telephone numbers), their own cellular
phone and a first aid kit (available from the nurse).
At the conclusion of the day, it is recommended that the group hold
a short discussion to reflect on the day's Activity (see the Experiential
Learning Model). In the following week, the first aid kit
needs to be returned and the students should record their community
service hours on their record sheet. |
