CampusTours
http://www.campustours.com
This site is an excellent way to familiarize yourself with dozens of colleges
and universities without having to search for their individual Web sites.
The so-called virtual tours vary widely, however. In some, the tours amount
to nothing more than a campus map and some photos of prominent buildings.
In others, the online tours are very impressive, indeed. Using the latest
multimedia tools, induding 360-degree imagery, Web cams, and audio clips,
a number of colleges make virtual visits seem a lot like the real thing.
Scores of colleges are represented here. Find the school (or schools)
of your choice, select the feature that most appeals to you (virtual tour,
Web cam, interactive map, video, photos, or Web site), and click away.

How important is a college's ranking? Are rankings useful in deciding
which college or university to attend? This site intelligently tackles
these questions. It has a number of links to online rankings and evaluations,
such as the annual one from U.S. News and World Report; and links to alternatives
to rankings; arguments against ranking; and rankings using unusual criteria,
such as student activism or computer connectedness. In addition to rankings
of undergraduate colleges and universities, you will find rankings of
graduate study programs. The bibliography of print resources is also helpful.

College Choice Website
http://www.gseis.ucla.edu/mm/cc/home.html
You'll find most of the requisite advice and tools for a college search
at this site, but we were impressed by a couple of valuable features that
we have not found at most other sites. High school students who have their
hearts set on college should carefully review the points outlined in Preparing
for College. But younger students who have the foresight to check out
this site will learn that you can start getting ready for college as early
as the sixth grade. Suggested steps for students in grades 6 to 12 can
be found here. Other sections of the College Choice Website address such
critical steps as Selecting a School, The College Application, Paying
for College, and Your First Year Away.
