Education: B.A. - University of California at Berkeley, Physical Geography. M.A. - National University, Cross cultural Education Courses offered: 4th Grade Reason for living in Guatemala: To experience it’s cultural diversity and rich history. Time spent in Guatemala: As of today, August 13, 2008, it’s been 2 weeks and 1 day. Reason for choosing Colegio Maya: I read Colegio Maya’s Mission and Vision Statements on the internet. I also corresponded with Dr. Miller and Mr. Combs prior to deciding to come to Colegio Maya. After considering what I had read and heard, I felt that I would be a very good fit at Colegio Maya based on my experience working in a school that had very similar values and a similar school culture. The value placed on teaching the whole child, school culture and traditions, and being part of a professional learning community made my decision very easy. Quality of Experience in Guatemala and Colegio Maya: Thus far, I would say that every aspect of my experience at Colegio Maya has met, and in almost every case, exceeded my expectations. That goes from the greeting I received at the airport, to the way the students behave on campus. As mentioned earlier, I’ve only been here for about 2 weeks, but so far I’ve found the people extremely nice and the natural beauty unbelievable…I can’t wait to see more! Interests: Traveling, teaching, meeting interesting people, learning about just about anything, being in and on the ocean surfing and fishing, watching and participating in just about any sports, and relaxing. Family: I’m here by myself, but I have 2 brothers and a sister. I’m the youngest and we are EXTREMELY close. They are my best friends. Future plans: I may go to Antigua for the first time this weekend, and other than that, I can’t really say. I do know I’m looking forward to at least two fantastic years at Colegio Maya though. |
