Our second graders
will be reading the story The Singing
Monster. Please ask your students
about the story and have them share it with their family for some October Fun.
Help Your Child Become a Better
Reader
-Read aloud to your
child as often as possible. Remember
that children of all ages love to hear books read aloud. Keep reading to your child even after he/she
learns to read.
-Talk about what you
read.
-Have your child read
aloud to you or others. Keep it fun and
enjoyable.
--Let your child read a
variety of reading material: magazines, newspapers, books, forms, recipes,
cereal boxes, etc.
-Provide opportunities
to write. Allow your child to make
grocery list, send thank you notes or letters to friends or relatives and even
keep a diary.
-Monitor television
viewing. Watch television together and
discuss the program content.
-Listen to your
child. Your attention will build your
child’s self-esteem while he/she develops oral language confidence.
-Subscribing to any of
the following children’s magazines will encourage reading at home:
Sesame Street Magazine
Ranger Rick
Zoobooks
Sports Illustrated for
Kids
National Geographic
World
Your Big Back Yard
