Education:
B.S. Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa, Masters of Education, Framingham State College, Framingham, Massachusetts
Courses offered:
8th grade Civics/Comparative Government, 9th grade World Regions and Cultures and 12th grade Anthropology, and act as the 10th grade advisor for class activities and their community service.
Reason for living in Guatemala:
My husband’s work with United Brands, the Vegetable Oil Division, brought us to Guatemala from Costa Rica in 1975.
Time spent in Guatemala:
We have been here since 1975, except for three years in San Salvador when my husband was working there on an AID Contract.
Reason for choosing Colegio Maya:
We enrolled our children in Colegio Maya as it was the only school, during that time, with an English-speaking U.S. curriculum based on the U.S. calendar. I had always been involved in teaching and was anxious to become part of the school’s academic community.
Quality of Experience in Guatemala and Colegio Maya:
Colegio Maya has been a wonderful place in which to learn and grow and promote the feeling of being with family even while working and studying.
Interests:
I love to garden, cook, hike, read, explore Guatemalan cultures and go boating, swimming and fishing.
Family:
Our oldest son Willy, who graduated from Maya in 1986, lives in Iowa, is married to Sue, has two sons, and practices dentistry in a Latin community.
Our daughter, Wendy, who graduated from the Colegio Americano of El Salvador in 1989, lives in Austin, Texas and manages a newspaper, The Austin Daze.
Our son, Wes, who graduated from Colegio Maya in 1995, lives in Guatemala and works for the family business and coffee farm.
Future plans:
Continue to enjoy the journey of life!
