This week’s shared reading: Any Kind
of Dog.
This a story that
many students (and parents!) may be able to relate to. A little boy desperately wants a dog! His mother repeatedly tells him that dogs are
too much trouble and she gives him many other interesting types of pets. No pet will satisfy the boy however and
eventually the mother gets him a dog.
Guess what? He discovers that his
mother was right…dogs are a lot of trouble!
It is worth it however to the little boy!
Some skills we will be working on as we
enjoy the story are the use of present and past tense verbs. This is difficult for many first
graders! We will also be working on
describing characters in a story.
Students will get their own chance to describe “characters” as they
write about favorite pets! This story
also gives us a great opportunity to discuss the responsibility of taking care of an animal and making good choices!
Here are some words you can practice at
