Education: BA in Kinesiology from Whitworth College, TEFL degree of Trinity College of London, Barcelona, Spain. I'm currently working toward my Masters of Education through Framingham, as well as, doing online courses with UMSL. Courses offered: 6th, 8th and 9th grade PE, Fit For Life & Active for Life Reason for choosing Colegio Maya: Colegio Maya has a wonderful reputation and a very diverse student population. I love the challenging and professional atmosphere for both students and teachers. They really work hard to develop the whole person, we (students and teachers) are always learning and I love that!! Quality of Experience in Guatemala and Colegio Maya: It's been great! Over the last year or so I've really gotten to know Maya and Guatemala. I feel blessed to be surrounded by such a diverse student population as well as Teachers and staff with experiences from all over the world bringing all kinds of different talents and experiences that enhance what we do here at Maya. Also, traveling the Guatemalan country side has been great, exploring places like Tikal, Monterico, climbing 4 of the 32 volcanos (I have a lot to go, but am working on it ;-) Semuc Champey, Coban, Santa Cruz, Rio Dulce/Livingston, Chichicastenango, the festival de Bariletas (my favorite so far), Xela and the mountain regions outside of Xela, Mountain Biking Treks etc... I love it! Interests: I love hiking, biking, climbing volcanoes or other mountains, running and watching futbol on the tele and playing as well! I love to travel, to have true 'chapin' experiences, like eating 'comida tipica' from the street vendors or catching a festival in a nearby rural village. I enjoy reading and keeping up on current world events. I love mtn. biking on the weekends and volunteering when I get a chance. Family: My family consists of my Mom and Dad (Larry and Anita Day) who live in Chelan, WA and my recently married brother, Joe, and his wife, Courtney, who live in Seattle, WA. Future plans: I hope this year to climb Pico de Orizaba in Mexico with some colleagues as well as trek to El Mirador up in the northern most part of Guate. I'd also like to travel to South America, which is a part of the world I've never been to thus far. Brazil, Argentina and Chile are first on my list! Just turning 30 this year I have a commitment with myself to do an Ironman, so I hope to be able to train for that this year as well. As far as career... I would really love to continue to develop my skills as a teacher here at Maya for a few more years, then after that I would like to go and serve as a teacher in a small rural village helping to develop education in the not so priveleged areas of Guatemala.
