Science

After learning about the respiratory and excretory systems in the first quarter we will move on to the smaller units of the body, cells. Students will not only learn about the parts and functions of cells, but they will learn about and use microscopes in order to examine plant and animal cells. The fifth graders will also look at genetics, specifically at dominant and recessive genes as well as mutations. This unit will combine a variety of hands on activities with reading from the text book.
